Edward, a civil servant, runs away from his fiancée Molly on their wedding day in Rangoon, 1917. Molly, who is about to get married, amused by his escape, tracks him down across Asia.
Portugal’s official submission for the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category at the 97th Academy Awards in 2025. I’ve never been so annoyed at a movie, but I stayed out of respect for the other viewers.
The comic reliefs are completely funny (really, why does anyone laugh at women cursing men anymore? It evokes no feelings other than deep irritation and a sense of wasted time.
Some of the footage is nice (if you’ve never been to Asia) and I have to appreciate the use of traditional Asian music. However, it’s not enough to make up for how poorly constructed and pointless this film is.
