When he drives drunk, Mark loses his driver’s license and must pass the MPA certification. During the course, he gets to know Helena and tries to sober up together with her, but temptations lurk everywhere. After Mark’s first unsuccessful attempt to sober up, Helen mentioned that he lasted only 27 days [00:41:50].
After that [00:42:35] in Mark’s apartment, the attached calendar pages indicated that he had succeeded only for 25 days. As with most, if not all, addictions, those who suffer from it cannot see it. And the film somehow gives this understanding from the very beginning.
They even talk and tell our main character what he is probably thinking. It doesn’t imprint itself on him – at least not to the extent of helping him or making him change. The story is predictable, but you stay here because you are fascinated by the game, including the other actors (Chirner, to name only one).
Clichés and rejection of distrust go hand in hand – at least that’s how it should be. One for.. home viewing!
